Top 10 tips for your OE to Asia
| #1 | We don't want to scare you but things can happen. Getting sick in a remote area of Asia can be costly - but if you organise comprehensive travel insurance before you depart, it will cover things like medical care and even repatriation (getting you home in an emergency). |

| #2 | Purchase a Lonely Planet for the country you are planning on staying in for a while. It gives you lots of information on things to do as well as handy information on transportation and local customs. |
| #3 | Not sure how long you are going to be away for? We can offer you flexibility as well as value for money with a STA ticket as well as an 18 month return ticket. If you're looking to go away for more than 18 months we recommend you purchase a one way ticket (but you can only do this if you have a working visa). Check out more information on OE flights. |
| #4 | Make sure you have had all the correct vaccinations for your Big OE destination. Some vaccinations need to be administered up to 6 months before arrival, so get organised early. See your GP or a Travel Doctor for more information. |
| #5 | Take a photo of all your belongings that you are taking on your OE before you depart NZ. Just incase your bag gets stolen or lost, this will help when it comes to making a travel insurance claim. |
| #6 | If you are planning to be away for a while ensure that you have a reliable person back in Aotearoa that will send you all those staples (Minties, Chocolate Fish, Perky Nana's). |
| #7 | Travel cheap! If you are a student or under 26 years old - grab a International Student Identity (ISIC) or International Youth Traveller (IYTC) card. They're your tickets to the best travel deals on the planet. |
| #8 | Photocopy all your important documents (passport, tickets, visas, credit cards) and leave a copy with your family or friends in New Zealand. This will be a saviour if you happen to lose anything and need to replace it. |
| #9 | Before you depart, ensure that your passport is valid and not going to expire while you are overseas. Some countries require that your passport be valid for at least six months after your period of stay. |
| #10 | While the world is a beautiful place, we recognise the fact that it is a changing one. With the current political climate, you should be aware of some of the more dangerous places to visit before you plan a visit there. Keep abreast of the latest government information on travel warnings and precautions by regularly checking the MFAT travel advisory information. |
