Make sure you're all organised for your OE to Europe.  Whether you're looking to work in the romantic city of Paris or teach English in the Czech Republic there are a lot of things to think about before you head off.  Lucky we've put together some handy hints below to make sure your OE is as stress-free as possible. Check them out...

Top 10 tips for your OE to Europe

#1  If you are planning on working while on your OE, make sure you've organised you leave plenty of time to organise your visas as some can take up to 3 months or longer to organise!  If you'd rather let someone else sort if out for you, plus give you a head start on finding a job and settling into your new country, check out the Work France and Work Ireland programmes.
#2  If you're on a tight budget it's often cheaper to fly via Asia as opposed to via the USA.  However, you normally get a larger baggage allowance via America which is something worth thinking about if you are going to Europe for a while.  Check out our cheap flights page for all the best airfare deals.
#3  Not sure how long you are going to be away for?  We can offer you flexibility as well as value for money with a STA Travel Blue ticket or an 18 month return ticket.  If you're looking to go away for more than 18 months we recommend you purchase a one way ticket (but you can only do this if you have a working visa). Check out more information on OE flights
#4  Bonjour!  Get the most out of your OE (and ensure you can get around) by learning the local language. Check out our language courses including accommodation and activities in France, Italy, Spain and Germany.
#5  Purchase an A-Z of the city that you are staying in as soon as you arrive - it will become your best friend!
#6  If you are planning to be away for a while make sure that you have a reliable person back in Aotearoa that will send you all those staples (Minties, Chocolate Fish, Perky Nana's).
#7  Travel cheap! If you are a student or under 26 years old - grab a International Student Identity (ISIC) or International Youth Traveller (IYTC) card.  They're your tickets to the best travel deals on the planet.
#8  Many European countries require you to have comprehensive travel insurance as part of the visa application.  Check out our travel insurance policies - we've got great rates for up to 12 months that you can also extend for another year, giving you up to two years' cover.
#9  Before you depart, make sure that your passport is valid and not going to expire while you're overseas.  Some countries require that your passport be valid for at least six months after your period of stay.
#10  While the world is a beautiful place, we recognise the fact that it is a changing one.  With the current political climate, you should be aware of some of the more dangerous places to visit before you plan a visit there.  Keep abreast of the latest government information on travel warnings and precautions by regularly checking the MFAT travel advisory information.
