Top 10 tips for your OE to Latin America
| #1 | We don't want to scare you, but things can happen. From minor health problems (like food poisoning) to emergency care or repatriation (getting you home in an emergency), if you don't have travel insurance - then you're going to be lumped with a lot of bills that will definitely take the fun out of your OE. |

| #2 | Hola amigos! Get the most out of your Big OE (and ensure you can get around) by learning the local language. STA Travel can organise language courses including accommodation and activities in several countries in South America. |
| #3 | Not sure how long you are going to be away for? We can offer you flexibility as well as value for money with a STA ticket as well as an 18 month return ticket. If you're looking to go away for more than 18 months we recommend you purchase a one way ticket (but you can only do this if you have a working visa). Check out more information on OE flights. |
| #4 | Make sure you have had all the correct vaccinations for Latin America - including the compulsory Yellow Fever vaccination required for Brazil. Some vaccinations need to be administered up to six months before arrival, so get organised early. See your GP or a Travel Doctor for more information. |
| #5 | Purchase an A-Z of the city that you are staying in as soon as you arrive - it will become your best friend! |
| #6 | If you are planning to be away for a while ensure that you have a reliable person back in Aotearoa that will send you all those staples (Minties, Chocolate Fish, Perky Nana's). |
| #7 | Travel cheap! If you are a student or under 26 years old - grab a International Student Identity (ISIC) or International Youth Traveller (IYTC) card. They're your tickets to the best travel deals on the planet. |
| #8 | Take a photo of all your belongings that you are taking on your OE before you depart NZ. Just incase your stuff gets stolen or lost, this will help when it comes to making a travel insurance claim. |
| #9 | Before you depart, ensure that your passport is valid and not going to expire while you are overseas. Many countries require that your passport be valid for at least six months after your period of stay. |
| #10 | While the world is a beautiful place, we recognise the fact that it is a changing one. With the current political climate, you should be aware of some of the more dangerous places to visit before you plan a visit there. Keep abreast of the latest government information on travel warnings and precautions by regularly checking the MFAT travel advisory information. |
