The internet was good value and the single rooms were good with air conditioning and a TV. Its also very close to the ferry docks.

I didn't get mugged and I learnt a lot about the soiled, heuristic side of China.
Pretty disappointing

there are few positive comments to make about the Tai Wan Hotel, apart from the fact it was in a central location (which truthfully isn't difficult to find as Hong Kong is quite small). There was only one lift (which could fit a max. of 6 people without luggage) which was to access 7 floors, our 'hotel' occupied only 1 of these floors and most of the time we had to use the stairs as the wait was so long. We were warned about the hawkers, which weren't really an issue but were quite annoying. On arrival, it looked nothing like a hotel, but more like a shabby, old office building in which they'd converted the office cubicles into rooms. The room itself was nothing like the photos shown to me at the STA travel agency, the door couldn't fully open as it hit the bed post halfway, you had to turn side on to get through the door and avoid the crumbling wall - not to mention the 'ensuite' which could rival the compact toilets in an aeroplane, showering over the toilet was an experience! The lady behind the desk was helpful and friendly but her husband was very rude and yelled at us when we complained about their computers/internet not working, it was rather weird. Finally after checking out in the morning, we wanted to leave our luggage in storage for the day and instead of keeping it in a locked room, the lady simply tied our bags together with a couple of pieces of rope. The luggage sat infront of the counter with several other bags, she promised to keep an eye on it and I'm happy to say that she did! It wasn't a complete disaster but for what we paid for, we were better off either staying in a backpackers hostel or a real hotel. Maybe update your photos as they are incorrect!

Nur die Lage kann hier punkten...ansonsten ist dieses Hostel nicht zu empfehlen. Schmutzig, ohne Fenster, in einem stinkenden, mülligen Gebäude. Beängstigend. Also: no go!!!

The Staff is very friendly and alert, because when I just arrived there they noticed that someone was acting strange around some stored luggage and they acted on it. There isn't really a storage for the luggage, it's just the hallway. The hostel is in a big building and it can take a long time to wait for the elevator. I didn't have any problem with other people trying to have me to go to another hostel, because when they saw that I had already payed, they left me alone.
A girl that I met was staying at another place, near the mainstreet. Her hostel was smaller, you didn't have to wait for the elevator long... The Star guest house seemed better for girls travelling by themself. Especially if you don't like the hassle of the mainstreet.
Enjoy your time in Hong kong! It's a great city!
