Wonderful location!

Shared a twin room with en-suite for two nights (though almost a month apart). Twin rooms were spacious, with a desk for each person. Beds were a little bit creaky. On our first stay I relocated my mattress to the floor to avoid the creaking! Beds were clean and linen was crisp. Bathrooms were clean though we had a small issue with hot water at one point! The cleaning was obviously well maintained, except we had cleaners knocking on our door before 10am when we were still getting ready to check out! Bit awkward but otherwise fine! The room was quiet...you could hear music from the basement but we were enough levels up for it not to be an issue. The accommodation is also an EF centre so there were a lot of young people around involved with that, but that didn't bother us as we weren't in there too much. Breakfast facilities were fine, but our breakfast vouchers were only enough for some basics, so take some change with you if you want more with breakfast. There is a pret a manger and some grocery shops across the road though! The staff were perfectly pleasant to deal with, especially the first night when we didn't get there until 2am after our flight. There was security at the main door, and they were more than happy to point us in the right direction to our rooms! They also had numbers for private hire taxis to Heathrow airport which was a good price and was early to pick us up! Also good to note was that they had a storage facility for us to keep our backpack in for the day we weren't flying out of London until the evening but we had to check out in the morning (I think this was a pound per bag)! The location is fabulous for public transport. Metres away from the Great Portland Street tube stations which is on the Circle, Metropolitan and City & Hammersmith lines. It is only a couple of stops away from Paddington Station to the west (where the Heathrow Express terminates) and King's Cross St Pancras to the east!

SENSATIONAL ACCOMMODATION IN THE HEART OF LONDON

International Student House is absolutely fabulous! I have stayed there for a month or two for the last 3 years. I love everything about the place. The cost is amazing for the heart of London - approx. $AU110 per night, which includes a voucher for breakfast!! Situated at the corner of Great Portland Street and Marylebone Road, the Great Portland Street tube station is literally across the road. This is in Zone 1. Hammersmith & City (Pink), Circle (Yellow) and Metropolitan (Maroon) lines are available. Across the road is Pret a Manger which has free wifi and makes brilliant coffee with equally great soup, pastries, yogurt and sandwiches - my favorite is Chicken & Avocardo on full grain bread. Portland Wine - 24 hours - Tesco and several pubs are are next door. A block away is a Starbucks which also has free Wifi. Security at ISH is excellent. There is someone at the entrance foyer 24/7 who must see your Key Card before you will be admitted. The Key Card is used to gain access to the residential parts of the building and your room. A single room - dormitories and double rooms also - has a bed, desk and chair, wardrobe, lounge chair, small sink with hot and cold water, a lamp, telephone with radio and a small bar fridge. There is also a wall heater, which I have never needed to use as I am usually there in Spring. I'm always happy to use shared shower and loo because I have seen what a great job the cleaning ladies do every day. There are 4 showers and 2 loos on the floor I stay on. Bedlinen and towels are changed once a week. Rubbish is emptied daily. There is also and small kitchen area with a sink, 2 microwaves and an electric jug for guests to use. 3 meals a day are served in the basement Dining Room. A range of hot food as well as salad and soup, drinks (not licenced) and fruit is available. Prices are very reasonable and you can use your Breakfast Voucher at any time if you don't eat breakfast. You can pay to use the Gym and there is a Physiotherapist during certain days. A laundry with 6 large coin in the slot washing machines and two dryers is downstairs. Other facilities include an Internet Cafe, a Lounge with wide screen television and the Bar which offers snacks and discount drinks at various times. If all of that is not good enough, there is a free film every Sunday night and there is luggage storage available. The staff are very helpful too. Oxford Street and Madame Tussaud's are within walking distance as is Regent's Park

Great location in central london. Facilities were clean, and the building and rooms very safe. It's in such a lovely neighbourhood, and within walking distance to many of london's attractions. Loved the student house, would definitely book and stay there again.
