Russia! Incredible history, hilarious people. White nights in St Petersburg when the sun never sets is quite a treat. Third class on the Trans-Siberian was shared with cattle, chickens and extremely curious locals that will insist you drink vodka with them through the trip!

Hey Micaela, how long have you been with STA Travel?
Just over a year now. I am based in our Auckland University store.

Where have you travelled to?
The UK - The London Underground, shopping, pubs and people who are speaking English but you haven't a clue what they're saying!
Europe - From the beautiful Tulips and cosy cafes in the Netherlands and the wine and movie-like country side in France, to the amazing food, immense history, markets down alley way streets and beautiful crystal clear water in Italy, Croatia and Greece, I loved it all!
Africa - Such an incredible variety of landscape, people and animals all thrown in to a boiling pot of flavours, colours and magic! Literally hundreds of different cultures, each with their own language, beliefs, food and ways of life.
Asia - Completely different to anywhere else and such extremes going on. Huge shopping malls to bustling water markets. Immense rain and wind to calm warm bays and a cocktail in hand.
Australia - Sun, surf, sand, shopping and theme parks!.
The Pacific - Such deep roots of culture and family orientated customs. Lovely people. Soooo much yummy fruit and seafood! Sunny, beautiful and calm. Island tiiiiime.

What’s your favourite destination?

Cape Town South Africa and Lesvos Greece

What’s your best travel memory?
This one is really difficult to answer. There is a really cool little beach called Melinda near the town of Plomari in Greece. There is this huge rock that juts out from the beach. The water gets deep pretty quickly so the locals climb over the rock and on the other side the water is super deep and they all jump off doing tricks and dives. When we were there this year we joined in and it was so much fun! My favourite travel memories are all in Africa and Greece with great places and even better family and friends. Trips are nothing without people to experience them with. Take friends or make ‘em along the way!

Why do you love travel?
It lets you experience all the colours the world has to offer. I love exploring and adventures. The path less traveled is always my journey of choice!

What would be your perfect Round the World trip?
Auckland to South East Asia for some fried grasshoppers, rainforest exploring and island hopping. From there I'd jet to East Africa for some animal spotting and a little hike, up a little hill called Kilimanjaro. Onward to the coast to experience the spices of Zanzibar. From there down to Cape Town! I love Cape Town! Green market square to stock up on kikoys, Kaulk bay for all the little cafes, strip shopping and my very big, very loud South African Greek family in Camps Bay. From there I'd jet off to Sao Paolo Brazil in search of Iguassu falls, venturing onward into the Amazon and out to the Galapagos islands. I'd make my way upward through Central America into North America exploring all the food and music hot spots, San Fran, LA, New Orleans, Nashville and New York. From New York I'd hop to London with a stop in Iceland on the way. After tea and cake of various varieties through Europe, I'd make my way to Croatia and onward to the Greek Islands and there I would stay!

What’s your hot travel tip?
Pack LIGHT!! You will tend to add weight as you go (to your bag mostly but depending on where you go you may add weight to your waistline also.. ahem... Italy.. ahem... gelato, pasta, pizza.... haha

Hey Jermaine, how long have you been with STA Travel?
17 months, you can find me at the Riccarton store in Christchurch.

Where have you travelled to?
22 countries and counting and yes, I do class Vatican City as a country!

What’s your favourite destination?
I can never pick one so I'm picking two for different reasons.

1. For pleasure it would be Koh Rong - Cambodia. Such an awesome place to relax and chill out. $40USD a night IN TOTAL for a room for 4 people in a beachfront bure with a hammock looking over the amazing beaches. Google it.

2. For culture it would be Ollantaytambo - Peru. Had the most amazing time here, the vibe of the city is incredible and the history of the Inca people is amazing. Around the city there are quite a few places like Pisac which is almost as amazing as Machu Picchu. There are some spectacular views and it's also where you get the train to Machu Picchu.

What’s your best travel memory?
Watching the sun rise over the Ganges River and watching a cremation take place on the side of the river banks. It's so amazing, one minute the suns down and its pitch black and then when the sun comes up it sheds it's light over the river and you see India come to life!

Why do you love travel?
Because of the excitement, the thrill or arriving into a foreign city for the first time and being able to meet people! From my travels so far I think I have a bed in nearly 50 countries which can be booked with a simple Facebook message. Meeting people is the key to travel, being able to exchange stories and give people tips and tricks is the best form of information. .

What would be your perfect Round the World trip?
Auckland - Bangkok // Singapore - Dublin // Rome - Rio de Janeiro // Santiago - Auckland

What’s your hot travel tip?
1. Book the trip, 2. Never look back. "It's better to see something once than hear about it a thousand times". GO! You won't regret it!

Hey David, how long have you been with STA Travel?
I have been working for STA now for over 18 months.

Where have you travelled to?
I grew up in the UK and travelled to a number of countries within Europe. I have been to the Middle East, Africa, South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Hawaii. I also have spent a short time on the West coast of North America, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. I was fortunate enough to be able to travel for 2 years before settling here in New Zealand.

What’s your favourite destination?
I love Fiji, I have spent a whole month travelling the Yasawa islands, it is such a paradise which is only made more beautiful from the white beaches, clear water and amazing food. The people who live and work on the Yasawa Island really do make it a place you want to return to

What’s your best travel memory?
Me and another backpacker cycling around an island in Southern Laos, Don Det and having a monkey jump from a tree and steal my friend’s sunglasses. Thankfully the monkey didn't appreciate his fake ray bans.

Why do you love travel?
No day is the same, You really are challenging yourself and always learning. Some of the best memories I have are with people who I may have only known for a couple of days but are so like minded as me, that you just get on from the start. I would recommend traveling to everyone!!

What would be your perfect Round the World trip?
If I was able to travel for a long period again, there a number of trip I would love to do, like travel from Alaska to Ushuaia and on to Antarctica. This would take 6 months but you would travel through so many different cultures and countries. It really would be a life changing experience like no other!

What’s your hot travel tip?
Be adventurous, remain flexible, friendly, and open minded.

Fave travel quote?
Mine would have to be “Travel is the only time spending money will make you richer”

Hey Matt, how long have you been with STA Travel?
Two years. I am based in our Palmerston North store.

Where have you travelled to?
Egypt, China, Fiji, Australia, Hawaii, USA & Samoa.

What’s your favourite destination?
I would love to say USA, but when you travel with your partner (or friends), the experience is so much more enjoyed as you get to share those moments. I would have to say - Samoa where you get to enjoy a beach break, turtles and cocktails.

What’s your best travel memory?
Roof-Top bar in New York was a wicked experience. Just being in such an iconic city was amazing!

Why do you love travel?
Expand your experiences & knowledge, what better way that visiting other countries rich in history and culture.

What would be your perfect Round the World trip?
Through Europe would be perfect - Eastern and Scandinavia regions, with a bit of Greece.

What’s your hot travel tip?
Learn a few local phrases, as it can break the ice when needing help or asking for that cold, local beer.

"In the end, we only regret the chances we didn't take"

Hey Jaime, how long have you been with STA Travel?
Three awesome years at the St Lukes branch

Where have you travelled to?
Bit of here and there - the craziest places are Russia, Iran and Colombia. Southeast Asia loop was my first big trip (Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Borneo, Singapore) for 5 months;  Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and a month in Colombia; lived in Italy, Scotland and England for a year each and used that to see all the European countries except Scandinavia; Canada, USA, India and last but not least Russia!

What’s your favourite destination?
Russia! Incredible history, hilarious people. White nights in St Petersburg when the sun never sets is quite a treat. Third class on the Trans-Siberian was shared with cattle, chickens and extremely curious locals that will insist you drink vodka with them through the trip!

What’s your best travel memory?
Working on a horse farm in southern Spain, getting whacked with tomatoes at La Tomatina, taking a traditional Banya in Russia where you get whipped with fir branches and then run out into the snow which is the biggest adrenaline rush you can imagine! My birthday this year in Colombia, sipping cocktails out of a coconut, the Orangutan sanctuary in Borneo where they come right up to you and check you out, and doing a bike tour around Delhi along all the ally-ways and side streets with all the goats, chicken, children running around, strong whiffs of curry and chai, every kind of meat hanging from the doorways, washing lines everywhere and you see a completely different side of the city.

Why do you love travel?
I love learning about the history of places and why they are the way they are - Iran has been the most fascinating so far, it is the opposite of what we are told most of the time and meeting people who are so keen to tell you their life story is amazing.  The thrill of not really knowing where you are or what you're doing, I love the first 24 hours in place where you feel completely disorientated and useless, you can end up in the coolest/strangest places and meet people you wouldn't normally.

What would be your perfect Round the World trip?
Auckland - Los Angeles - Cancun, travel overland through Central America and pick the flights back up in Panama to fly to Barcelona, then overland through Europe to fly from Istanbul - Beijing - Auckland. Saving my pennies for 2017

What’s your hot travel tip?
Do all the free local walking tours you can - usually run by students working for tips, they know their stuff.
