Getting a ticket refund or credit

Do I get a refund if I cancel my flight?

You will be eligible for a refund only if you cancel your flight ticket BEFORE departure (i.e your airfare is unused). The amount you receive will depend on the type of fare you purchased (see below). Any cancellations made after your departure date are not eligible for a refund.

Refunds can only be assessed and processed by the STA Travel division from which your ticket was purchased. To obtain a refund, you will need to send your request to the store you purchased your tickets from and ask them if your ticket is eligible for a refund (cancellation fees will apply) and they will process any monies that are due.

Make sure to allow plenty of time before your flight date to apply for a refund. Tickets are only valid for a refund up to 12 months from date of original issue. No refund can be applied for after this date if travel has not commenced. Airlines have the right to refuse a refund request if you no-show for a flight. All passengers travelling on a STA Travel SATA ticket are ineligible for a refund if you no-show to your flight.

Remember if you buy travel insurance when you book your ticket and then need to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances, you can submit a claim to cover both STA Travel and airline cancellation costs. 

How much will I get refunded? 

If you have cancelled your airfare prior to travel you may be eligible for a refund however, some tickets are totally non-refundable (typically cheap specials/online fares). Please contact your booking store for more information on what refund might be available to you. Please note cancellation fees from STA Travel will apply on top of any airline cancellation fees.

How long with my refund take to process?
Refunds typically take up to four weeks to process but can take up to 10 weeks, depending on your ticket type or the airline you are travelling on.
Can I get a flight credit toward a new ticket? 

This option is only available on select STA Travel SATA tickets, please contact your booking store to check whether your ticket is eligible.

STA Travel is the only travel company that offers this unique option. Essentially, a Credit Value is a calculation of the remaining value of the unused part of your ticket. Your Credit Value can be used toward the cost of purchasing another SATA ticket from STA Travel.

A Credit Value is not a refund to passenger and is strictly subject to purchase of a new SATA ticket. Credit Value amounts are non-transferrable and must be submitted at least 48 hours before departure. All no-shows are strictly not be eligible for a CV.
