How to make a travel insurance claim

Making a claim while travelling

If you are admitted to hospital or you anticipate you will incur medical expenses, you must immediately contact Allianz Global Assistance on the relevant 24 hour emergency assistance number below:
- +61 7 3305 7499 (reverse charge from Overseas), or
- 0800 778 103 (within New Zealand), or
- Use the number provided inside your Emergency Assistance Card corresponding to the country you are in.

IMPORTANT: When travelling, remember to have your policy document and policy number with you at all times.

Claiming once you are back in New Zealand

If you need to make a claim, please give Allianz Global Assistance notice of your claim within 30 days of your return by completing a claim form (also available on the back cover of your Policy Wording brochure) and posting it to:

If you need to contact Allianz about your claim, please freephone 0800 400 132 within New Zealand.

You claim will be processed within 10 business days of receiving you completed claim form with all the necessary documentation. If Allianz require additional information a written notification will be sent to you within 10 business days.

What supporting evidence is required to claim?
You must give Allianz GLobal Assistance any information they reasonably ask for to support your claim at your expense, such as but not limited to, police reports, written report from a travel provider, valuations, medical reports, original receipts or proof of ownership. If required you may also need to provide translations into English for these documents. Full details of what information is required can be found on the claim form.

Your excess

In the event of a claim, you may be required to pay an amount towards that claim. This amount is called an excess. The amount you pay may vary depending on the plan purchased, and whether you have chosen an option to vary the level of excess.

The excess which applies to your policy will be shown on your Certificate of Insurance. In some circumstances, we may require you to pay an additional excess for some medical conditions. We will inform you in writing if this excess applies.
