Round The World #3: The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Spread the love

We accept the love we think we deserve… and you deserve a break! There’s a lot of perks to this itinerary… let’s check ’em out.

Fiji

You’ll start this buffet of a trip on an island paradise – Fiji! Try fresh, local produce at the Suva Municipal market, then grab a coconut and lounge on one of many picturesque beaches. Pay a visit to the Sigatoka Sand Dunes where you might just find some pre-historic artefacts (disclaimer: STA is not responsible for any ancient curses acquired from the taking of said artefacts). Get a bit of culture in ya and have a look at the vibrant and colourful Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple. Got a bit of extra time? Take a day trip to the Kadavu Group! Spend the day diving and snorkelling among the Great Astrolabe Reef. Be sure to pack your sunscreen – you’ll be soaking up more sun than you can handle!

Singapore

Next up, a truly modern marvel, the city of Singapore. You’ll feel like you’re walking through a city of the future – save the ancient temples found scattered between the skyscrapers. Escape the hustle and bustle of city life and explore Singapore’s Botanic Gardens, then head over to the Gardens by the Bay and snaps a few pics of the iconic Supertrees. If you’re into a more trendy, hipster scene, check out Tiong Bahru, a new neighbourhood featuring cool shops, restaurants and bars.

Because where else could you see 150 ft-tall tree structures other than at the Supertree Grove at @gardensbythebay? : @miss_anastasia_u

Bali

Chill out and dive in to the beautiful island of Bali! Even those who don’t know much about Bali know it is the perfect island getaway. From lush wildlife to a unique culture and an exciting night life – you won’t be short of things to do. Treat yourself to a Balinese massage and relax in the healing Banjar hot springs. Visit our ancient ancestors at the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary (okay maybe not our ancestors…but let’s leave that debate for another time). You can’t do Bali without visiting the rice terraces – truly a one-of-a-kind experience. If you’re feeling a bit winded after this fast-paced itinerary (understandable) feel free to grab a cocktail (or three) and chillax on the beach!

London

Get ready to say ‘ello – we’re off to London! Okay, you might get some weird looks if you really butcher the accent, but give it a go anyways. Come hungry and try a scotch egg, some bangers and mash, a few pints…the list goes on. Luckily you won’t be hitting the beach here, so no beach bod necessary! Be sure to check out at least one of London’s many markets, namely the Camden Lock market or the Borough market (for even more tasty treats!). Head to Hampstead Heath for a break from the city, or the National Gallery for a dose of culture.

Munich

A quick hop over from London, next up we’ve got Munich! While other German cities like Berlin may be more modern, Munich boasts the classic and traditional German charm that you picture in fairy tales. Home to gothic churches and cobblestone side streets, you’ll be in awe of the quaint beauty of this city. Don’t think there isn’t any excitement here though – being home to the well-known bender festival Oktoberfest, citizens of Munich obviously know how to have a good time. Travelling outside of Oktoberfest dates? No worries! Check out the Augustiner Bräustuben Beer Hall. It’s more authentic than others in the city, and with fewer tourists. Prost!

Reykjavik

More of a snow bunny than a beach bum? You’re come to the right place. With its exceptional landscape and small town vibes, you’ll be in for a one-in-a-lifetime experience. Pay a visit to the Hallgrímskirkja – one of the coolest churches you’ll ever see – and marvel at the unique architecture and how it dominates the city skyline. You’ll want to make the trip out to the Blue Lagoon as well – a geothermal spa located not far outside of the city. Located in a lava field, the water is warm and rich, making you never want to leave. Keep your eyes to the sky every night – you may just catch a glimpse of the northern lights.

Seattle

Immerse yourself in the American Pacific Northwest as you head to the rainy exciting city of Seattle! Okay, defs bring a raincoat, but we promise this city is far from miserable. Just ask anyone in the music business – Seattle is the origin of bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Being the birthplace of ‘grunge’, the city’s culture has always been unique. Now home to one of the biggest hipster cultures, you’ll find it way too easy to find a craft beer bar or second-hand clothing shop (if you spend too much time here you may just grow a beard and/or moustache. You’ve been warned.) Check out either the Unicorn Bar or Rock Bar for a good time, then head to the Portage Bay Café for a much needed brunch the next morning.

Los Angeles

Time to ditch the raincoat for some sunnies – you’re off to LA! Head over to the Hollywood walk of fame for some celeb spotting, either on the ground or in person. Check out Universal Studios for the classic LA experience, or hit the beach for a day in the sun! While there are so many beaches to choose from (Santa Monica, Hermosa, Redondo…the list goes on), Venice Beach is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. You’ll get the best of both worlds – trendy little Mexican restaurants and bars, paired with eccentric individuals and ‘green doctors’ along the boardwalk. We’ll let you figure out what that last one means.
