NYC City Guide & Travel Tips

NYC. The Big Apple. One of the most iconic cities in the world and a must-visit destination for all travel lovers out there. From the bright lights of Times Square and the hipster vibes of Brooklyn, to kicking back in Central Park and dining in authentic New York hangouts - Manhattan and its neighbours pull visitors back time and time again.

When to Visit New York

New York truly is a year round destination, and has different personalities as the seasons change. In autumn watch the trees of Central Park turn to warm shades of orange and red and see the incredible Thanksgiving Day parade. Winter is home to the iconic Rockefeller Christmas tree and ice skating as well as freezing temperatures and exciting ice hockey in Madison Square Gardens. In spring and summer the city takes on a whole new character with al fresco dining, outdoor cinema, endless concerts and evenings spent at trendy rooftop bars.

Travelling to New York

Lucky for us there are a tonne of ways to get from NZ to New York with a variety of airport options both here and there. JFK, Newark and La Guardia airports are all within easy distance to the city centre, with public transport and taxis readily available. Flying time is about 12-13 hours direct to LA (or opt to fly into San Francisco or Houston) and then it's a 5-6 hour flight on to New York.

• Rise early and have breakfast at Carnegie Deli on 7th Avenue
• Catch some ice hockey or basketball at Madison Square Gardens
• Dine on Neapolitan-New-York Pizza at Lomardi's, the USA's first pizzeria
• Go ice-skating in Central Park or at the Rockerfeller at Christmas
• Walk the Highline and meet industrial-come-trendy Manhattan
